Coach report

It was an abject lesson in discipline from Cambourne that saw them overcome a strong Coton team with their tails up after multiple successive wins prior to this cup match.

Coton batted first but never really got going on a slow wicket with little bounce & sometimes none at all. Cambourne were ruthless in line & length bowling & picked up periodic wickets that didn’t allow Coton to get out the traps. All out in the 15th over of a T20 match with just 62 runs posted looked like an absolute stroll in the park for the visitors. But Coton then switched up gears. Outstanding opening bowling from the senior county players, Monty & Axel, backed up in the field by every team member, put Cambourne under pressure as two wickets fell early on & runs were few & far between. But the next wicket pair played watchful cricket, gradually adapting to difficult batting conditions.

Coton’s low score allowed a risk-free approach from their opponents & neither the laser sharp yorker bowling from Henry nor tossed up tempting leg spin from Mathis could draw a false shot. Other Coton bowlers chipped in well but to no avail. After 17 overs Cambourne still needed 10+ runs. But they had timed it to perfection, landing the win in the 19th over.

Congratulations to our opponents & good wishes in the semi, but a collective, massive pat on the back for the Coton boys who raised their heads & fought so hard to nearly bring back a match from the dead. All of the team look very forward to the return match with Cambourne in the league!
